Surprise!!!

The Call
I was sitting at my desk in a meeting on Tuesday June 27 at about 3 pm. My cell phone rang. It rang again. Then my desk phone rang. Then my cell phone rang again... a sure sign that someone was wanting to get ahold of me ;). I paused the meeting and checked my messages.

It was Erica. Our social workers had called her to let her know that there was a special adoption situation and they wanted to know if we would like to be considered for it. Chances were that we'd be going to pick up the baby the next day. After a flurry of phone calls where we worked out taking some time of work, we called back and let them know that we were a GO.

I can't tell you how shaky Erica and I both were as we got home that night... the thought of becoming instant parents is pretty earth-shaking. We were both numb.

The Name
So as soon as we figured out that we'd have to drive to Lexington the next day, we started to think about a name. We'd need a name for the litle boy that we'd be going to get the next day. We thought through family names and decided that we'd like to have both sides of our family represented. We settled on Max as a first name (which was my mother's dad's name) and Theodore as a middle name (which is Erica's father's and grandfather's first name).

Whew. Talk about a whilwhind.

We then set to figuring out what we would need to have on hand for a baby in our house... tomorrow.
